Just like our name says, H.E.R.O.E.S. is all about Helping Everyone Reach Outstanding Educational Success. Our mission is to provide lifelong learning through community experiences. We strive to create social, recreational and vocational programs designed to meet the unique needs of individuals with disabilities. We strongly encourage the integration of all individuals into their community by providing social models, communication, emotional and behavioral support. Our staff comprises certified educators, certified instructional assistants, college interns, licensed therapists and trained volunteers. As our founder, Josh says, “Adequate is not okay; excellence is.”

Josh Schilling, H.E.R.O.E.S. Founder & Executive Director
Josh Schilling, Founder, Executive Director for H.E.R.O.E.S., began his career as an adolescent substance abuse counselor and two years later made the decision to switch gears and become involved with special education. Highly qualified with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and a Masters in Special Education, Josh has spent the past 22 years as an educator, both as a special education teacher and administrator.
While working full time, he has also devoted countless hours to building H.E.R.O.E.S. over the past 16 years. Josh also serves on the Board of Directors as Vice Chairman. Josh is passionate about working hands-on with all students and truly believes that no matter what abilities, all students can be successful, contributing members of society.
His most important role is that of husband to Jackie and father to 3 children, Nick, Kiersten and Ethan; two of which are H.E.R.O.E.S. participants.
Kim Reed, H.E.R.O.E.S. Director
Kim has worked for 22 years as a Special Education Teacher, Vocational Adjustment Coordinator, and Mentor/New Teacher Trainer. Kim graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Elementary Education from the University of North Texas and received her Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Lamar University. Kim has worked with HEROES for the past 15 years in several different roles and is currently a Director. She also serves on the Board of Directors as Treasurer and is the Director of Development. Kim has raised over $1,500,000 through chairing the HEROES Golf Tournament for the past 12 years, chairing the Gala for the past 7 years, and other various community fundraisers. Kim’s first love is interacting with students, and she believes there is a place for EVERYONE in their community. Kim has been married to her husband Jim for 32 years, and they have a 28-year-old son, Connor, who has grown up volunteering and working at HEROES. When Kim is not working, she enjoys watching her son coach professional baseball and spending time with her family.
