Come One, Come All
People with different abilities often don’t get the same opportunities as others. H.E.R.O.E.S. is here to change that. We serve everyone, ages three through adulthood, regardless of ability.
H.E.R.O.E.S
During the summer of 2005, in the wake of statewide education funding cuts, a determined group of special education teachers and parents saw a lack of opportunity for those with special needs to be involved in the community. Taking matters into their own hands, they partnered with First United Methodist Church Richardson for a weeklong day camp with just five students. Fast forward to today, H.E.R.O.E.S. has grown exponentially and serves 500-600 families in the Dallas metroplex. Hundreds of hours of training, plenty of innovation in programming and an immeasurable amount of heart have gone into making H.E.R.O.E.S. what it is today. We strive to provide lifelong learning through community involvement, supporting families and teaching individuals the skills necessary to become contributing members of society. Our core belief centers around serving all; we do not turn anyone away based on medical or behavioral challenges, financial status or age. Lives are changing, and you can be a part of it!
PROGRAMS
Day Programs
Designed to meet the unique needs of every person, students experience an array of therapies, social skills training, team building activities, vocational training and facilitation of their independence.
Parent/Family Support
We seek to fulfill the needs of the whole family through programs like Life Planning, Parent and Family Connections and Sibshops.
Weekend Retreats
Our weekend retreats are a fun way to practice independent living skills in a real-life setting. We provide a safe environment for young adults to expand their comfort zone and increase their confidence as independent individuals.
In-Home & Community Training
Our in-home and community training aims to increase the participant’s level of independence by teaching independent living skills at home. We serve individuals in their natural environment, supporting the family in structure, routine and expectations.
Continuing Education
Our continuing education courses promote lifelong learning by incorporating real-life experiences to prepare students for situations they will face in everyday life.
H.E.R.O.E.S. Academy
Created for those who have completed secondary education and are transitioning to adulthood, our H.E.R.O.E.S. Academy is a full-time program devoted to helping young adults realize their potential and gain confidence in their independence.

Without adequate funding, H.E.R.O.E.S. is unable to fulfill our mission of providing lifelong learning through community experiences. As we grow, so must the support around us. We couldn’t do it without the generosity of people like you!
“H.E.R.O.E.S. camp has been a Godsend for Kyle and our family. Don’t know what we would do without H.E.R.O.E.S.”
